Sparodic Developments
Due to the changes in strategy that I have made for building Gentoo, developments will be pretty rare over the next two to three years. I did visit the saw mill that is providing the planking timber, a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised to see that they now have about three quarters of my order, in their drying racks. So some progress is being made.

New Strategy
With such a large project as building a boat like Gentoo, there is an accompanying large number of logistical considerations to under take.
For me, probably the biggest logistical question (after finding suitable planking timber) was where to build. Initially my intention was to live on Kaea and rent a building specifically for building. In the long term however it seemed more logical to buy a house with a big enough section to build it on, and this is what I have now done.
What this means though is that I now have much less disposable income and time to put into boat building, so I have had to come up with a new strategy. In the long term I think my new plans will work out better for me and will give me much better security and enjoyment during my retirement years. My current idea is to increase the time frame for all of my boat projects and re-prioritise my other projects, to bring them forward.
I have less definite timelines planned for Gentoo now. What I am planning for now though, is that once built, my life should be set up in such a way, that I can set out immediately in financial security in pretty much anyway I choose at the time, in Gentoo.
My current thinking is that the planking timber is still on order, so will be properly seasoned when I am ready to use it. I will still go ahead and arrange with Tom MacNaughton to start the re-design of the interior in mid August this year. When I do start building, I may only build the hull and deck initially, to the point of making it weather proof, then slowing down and allowing for the project to take up to 20-25 years from now to complete, while working on other projects and goals along side.
